The capital of calm and spirituality
Santa María de Fe · Misiones, ParaguaySince 2006
Santa María Hotel was founded in 2006 by Margaret Hebblethwaite, an English writer and theologian and a pioneer of hospitality in the village. Her idea was both simple and ambitious: to open Santa María to rural and cultural tourism.
Our façade keeps the style of the houses of the Jesuit era, a living reminder of the heritage that surrounds the hotel and the whole village. Today we have 9 rooms, a library, a lounge for small social events and our own parking.
A Jesuit and Guaraní past you can feel in every corner
Santa María de Fe was founded in 1630 as "Nuestra Señora de Fe". The original church collapsed in 1889, but a remarkable collection of Baroque statues is preserved today in the current church and in the Museum of Jesuit-Guaraní Art, housed in a historic Casa de Indios.
The village also keeps the story of the French scholar Aimé Bonpland, confined here after being captured by the dictator Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia. He taught the locals to make sweets and liqueurs, learned from them the healing properties of their plants, and started a family with María, a chief's daughter.
Located 250 km south of Asunción, 12 km off Route 1, between San Ignacio and Santa Rosa.
Nine rooms, designed for rest
Each one with its own story and its own name.
Private bathroom, electric shower with hot and cold water, air conditioning and wifi in every room — some rooms also have a minibar.
Each room is named after a Jesuit who left his mark on Santa María de Fe: Ranzonier, Brasanelli, Roque, Sepp, Montoya, Zipoli, Primoli, Suárez, Bertoh. It is our small tribute to those who shaped the history of the village, so that every detail of your stay brings you a little closer to the people who built this land.
We offer different types of rooms, arranged to suit each guest's needs: for couples, families or groups of friends.
Every space is designed to take you into the calm of the countryside and the traditions of the village: stone-carved wall pieces inspired by the Jesuit ruins, wooden desks with braided leather chairs, wicker bedside lamps and covers embroidered by the women of the Taller Hermandad, and textiles and rugs made by local artisans.
